The gorgeous Great Pyrenees: regal...soulful...gentle & gentile. What a supreme & stalwart flock guardian! In their element (which is where they belong-exclusively) (that being a vast pastoral acreage...not a backyard!) they are the zenith! Designed to dutifully watch & protect without drawing attention to themselves or their flock, the scene shown here is an idyll for shepherd, sheep & dog alike. I recall being annoyed by the bells affixed in my own flock (& thinking that they likely bugged my sheep as well) until I realised that the cacophonic sound of a bell being trounced around was quite a good indicator of something amiss...& of course, the faint & cadenced tinkling of 300 bells o'er the hill let me know right where everyone was. Telemetry for a true antiquarian. I'll take it. There is no better life than that of the shepherdess. Comments are closed.

AuthorHowl-O! I'm Julia Jensen- devoted student of dogs & religious sampler of cheesecake, wheat beer, huehuetenango coffee & almost any chocolate out there. I indulge these fancies & more, in the remote silence of the pacific NW. *PLEASE NOTE* The videos selected for bloghism could be construed as "disturbing" to those of certain bents, sensitivities, natures, mind-sets, etc.. I have a distinct interest in relaying footage of dogs doing what they have been doing for centuries....& in some cases, I also include dog show footage just as a matter of interest. If you do not like my selections, by all means, do not view them. Archives
