The name of these gorgeous blue Bullies was derived from famed Scottish sailor John Paul Jones (1747-1792) known in the USA as the father of our fine Navy & as a naval commander during the Revolutionary War. He also has a certain notoriety as a scoundrel, cad, pirate, rapist etc... but, I regress! The story goes that, Jones returned for a visit to his hometown of Kirkcudbright (within Dumfries and Galloway) in the 1770's with several of these dogs in tow (they were henceforth called "Blue Paul"/ "Blue Poll"...).
The last Blue Paul was exhibited in the late 1880's. Though they live on in the Skye, Yorkshire & Silky Terriers...these gorgeous Scot natives fell into obscurity & subsequent extinction in the early 1900s. |
AuthorHowl-O! I'm Julia Jensen- devoted student of dogs & religious sampler of cheesecake, wheat beer, huehuetenango coffee & almost any chocolate out there. I indulge these fancies & more, in the remote silence of the pacific NW. *PLEASE NOTE* The videos selected for bloghism could be construed as "disturbing" to those of certain bents, sensitivities, natures, mind-sets, etc.. I have a distinct interest in relaying footage of dogs doing what they have been doing for centuries....& in some cases, I also include dog show footage just as a matter of interest. If you do not like my selections, by all means, do not view them. Archives
